Hopefully we’ll beat a lot of the buzz since we’re up dangerously late here in Guerrilla land and we’re releasing the article now
But anyways, wordpress 2.8 is officially released and is already put into good use across three of our websites (the WP Guerrilla website, Guerrilla Freelancing and my Blog Design company website). In short – it’s amazing!
Lets run down some of the features and links showcasing the great wordpress 2.8
The wordpress development blog released a post showcasing wordpress 2.8 baker, the story behind the name and has a cool little video showcasing some of the new features it holds. Definitely a link to check out.
I just seen this link in a twitter status update from @wplinks and it’s definitely a page I’ll be looking into more shortly. It has a great rundown of over 5 thousand wordpress plug-ins, their compatibility, what php version they require and more. Definitely worth looking into for any blog owner or wordpress theme developer.
If you need the real information, you might as well get it straight from the horses mouth. This codex page is exhausting to look at. I mean, look at all of the awesome improvements they’ve made from wordpress 2.7! I’ll be studying this page more thoroughly tomorrow.
Justin Tadlock posted an awesome article in the custom taxonomies in wordpress 2.8 that shows you not only what a taxonomy is, but how to get your own custom ones (and why you should even consider it). I’ve not realized that taxonomies even existed (yes, I know – bad wordpress developer/blogger) but I am definitely going to look into them more closely after reading this post.
To round out the list of items to showcase wordpress 2.8 is a tutorial on how to build your own widgets with the new widget API in wordpress 2.8 baker. Step by step instructions are always nice, and the explinations in this article are great.
This upcoming wednesday will be the wordpress wednesday 2.8 baker edition over at my Blog Design blog. I am considering moving the wordpress wednesday posts over here to the WP Guerrilla website but am not sure since it’s already been going over there. So make sure you check out that blog (and subscribe) for the 2.8 baker edition post next wednesday.
If you have a wordpress 2.8 article/tutorial/resource, please feel free to let me know and I’ll make sure I get it included in the new wordpress wednesday!
